Message First a little background. My daily driver is a '96 Lexus SC400 which I thought was a great car until "MafiosoZ" gave me a ride in his Z. After about two minutes into the ride I said I got to get me one. I found a '91 TT with 84,000 miles and bought it sight unseen and had if shipped to my house in Moreno Valley CA for a total cost of $5,425.00. Very impulsive on my part. I got in touch with the previous owner to find out on what he had done to the car. The following is his reply:

The 300ZX was a project car for my son. He did most of the mods and I just helped once and a while. Here is what he told me about the car:

I installed a Jim Wolf Technologies POP charger air intake. After that I had a new stainless steel HKS Hi-Power "Hiper" Cat-Back exhaust installed by a local auto shop. I replaced the existing side-mount intercoolers with Z1 Motorsports high quality intercoolers and silicone couplers. When removing the existing intercoolers, I found that the units had been slightly damaged and some paint overspray was found on them, showing that the vehicle had been involved in a front end accident before I acquired it. At the time of the intercooler install I had the carbon canister deleted and all hardware removed. I replaced the old rubber intercooler hoses with red quality Z1 Motorsports silicone hoses. To accommodate for all these modifications and better performance, I had the stock ECU sent off to Z1 motorsports to have a custom EPROM installed. The tune is designed for basic bolt-ons, up to 15 pounds of boost, and 93 octane fuel, but will still run on 91 octane. During the process of installing the custom ECU, I installed boost jets (welding tips) in the vacuum hoses running to the wastegate on each turbocharger, creating a boost pressure increase to 15 psi, and replaced the existing spark plugs with new NGK PFR6B-11B gapped to .035" for 15 pounds of boost. I had a local exhaust shop install 2.5" stainless steel downpipes to help the exhaust flow easier. The detonation/knock sensor needs to be replaced but is not easy to get to under the intake manifold, so I placed a 1 meg resistor across the knock sensor connector terminals to trick the ECU into thinking the knock sensor is good, a common "band-aid modification" among 300ZX owners. You can see the connector tie wrapped towards the back of the engine under the hood (if the dealer didn't change it). When the bad knock sensor is connected, the ECU throws a code and retards the timing drastically causing the engine to bog down, lose power, lose gas mileage, and run poorly. The plastic coil pack connectors leading to each cylinder have become very brittle over the years and have broken in several places and will become disconnected occasionally due to the engine vibration or heavy acceleration. This bad connection will cause the engine to run rough. I highly suggest that you replace these plastic connectors. In addition, these cars have large problems with the small rubber hoses on the fuel lines becoming hard and brittle causing the clamps to come loose during cold months resulting in a horrible aroma of gasoline. Tightening of these clamps with a screwdriver is recommended each winter but some of these may need to be replaced. The only other work done to the car has been maintenance work including brake pads and rotors, and the starter was replaced.

I have some parts for this Nissan 300ZX for sale. I can email pictures if you are interested.

- Authentic JDM Tail Light 3 piece set - Paid $350, Asking $250 (Just like new. Looks great on the car!!!)

- 2.5" Stainless Steel Mid-pipes w/o catalytic converters - Paid $180 for downpipe and mid-pipe set, Asking $30 for mid-pipes alone (downpipes are already installed on the car).

(I know this next item is not really feasible for you since you're in California)

- New Ruff Racing R278 Chrome Wheels - Front: 18 x 8.5" Rear: 18 x 9.5" - Offset: Unknown but rears align perfectly with body and fronts align perfectly with the assistance of a high quality CNC'd aluminum 5mm spacer which we also have to go along with the wheels. With new Nankang Ultra Sport II tires- Paid $1500, Asking $950 or best offer. You can see these listed on the St. Louis Craigslist web site ([ http://stlouis.craigslist.org/ ]).

I want to thank all of you for your input. I took the car to Specialty Z for a check up. The compression was good. overall the car was Okay with alot of differed maintenance. Seb showed me where it was in an accident. New rear brakes, tires, trans mount and automatic transmission service are being done this weekend. Zeb said it needed the following:
T-rods, shocks and springs, valve cover leak, rear main seal, T-belt,fuel regulator/damper, fender cover/splash shields, and a front bumper.
